The Duke of Edinburgh Cup New Zealand 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your participation in The Duke of Edinburgh Cup New Zealand qualifying tournament ("the Event") to be held on Friday, 8 May 2026 at Royal Wellington Golf Club, Heretaunga Course.

By registering for the Event, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully before completing your registration.

The Event is organised by Doozie Ltd ("the Organiser") on behalf of the International Golf Charity and The Duke of Edinburgh Cup.

2. Definitions

  • "Event" means The Duke of Edinburgh Cup New Zealand qualifying tournament.

  • "Participant" means any person who registers for and/or participates in the Event.

  • "Organiser" means Doozie Ltd and its authorised representatives.

  • "Venue" means Royal Wellington Golf Club, 28 Golf Road, Heretaunga, Upper Hutt.

  • "World Finals" means The Duke of Edinburgh Cup World Finals held in London, UK.

3. Eligibility

3.1 Age Requirements

Participants must be 18 years or older on the start date of the World Finals (27 September 2026) to be eligible to win the main prize and qualify for the World Finals. Participants under 18 may enter and compete but are ineligible for the World Finals qualification.

3.2 Amateur Status

The Event is open to amateur golfers only. Participants must hold a valid handicap index recognised by their National Golf Association.

3.3 Handicap Requirements

  1. Maximum handicap index: 28 for men, 36 for ladies

  2. Playing handicap is 90% of course handicap (after slope adjustment)

  3. Handicap must be current and valid at the time of the Event

  4. Non-resident contestants must produce valid proof of handicap from their national association

4. Registration and Payment

4.1 Registration Process

  1. Registration is completed via doecup.nz

  2. Entry is confirmed only upon receipt of full payment and a completed registration form

  3. Registration closes 10 April 2026, unless capacity (128 players) is reached earlier

4.2 Entry Fees

  1. Early Bird: $375.00 per person (limited to first 40 registrations, closes 23 February 2026)

  2. Regular Registration: $425.00 per person

  3. All prices are in New Zealand Dollars and inclusive of GST

4.3 What's Included

Entry fee includes: 18-hole Stableford competition, premium goodie bag valued at $150 (featuring Duke of Edinburgh Cup merchandise), lunch, prize-giving ceremony, and GST.

4.4 Required Information

Registration requires the following information:

  • Full Name

  • Address

  • Email

  • Mobile phone number

  • Handicap index at time of registration

  • Playing Partner Name (optional – this is an individual event but you may sign up to play in pairs)

5. Cancellation and Refund Policy

5.1 Participant Cancellation

  1. More than 30 days before Event: Full refund less $50 administration fee

  2. 15-30 days before Event: 50% refund

  3. Less than 15 days before Event: No refund

  4. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to info@doecup.nz

5.2 Event Cancellation by Organiser

If the Event is cancelled by the Organiser due to circumstances beyond reasonable control (including but not limited to adverse weather, pandemic restrictions, or venue unavailability), participants will receive a full refund of entry fees. The Organiser will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants.

5.3 Substitutions

Participants may transfer their entry to another eligible person up to 7 days before the Event, subject to Organiser approval and payment of a $25 administration fee.

6. Tournament Rules and Format

6.1 Competition Format

  1. 18-hole Stableford competition

  2. Playing handicap is 90% of course handicap (after slope adjustment)

  3. Singles event format

6.2 Rules of Play

The Event will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as laid down by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the USGA, and any Local Rules that Royal Wellington Golf Club has in place.

6.3 Equipment

  1. Distance-only measuring devices and GPS devices are permitted

  2. Devices providing slope, wind, or club selection data are prohibited

  3. Golf carts are available subject to availability and Venue policy

6.4 Ties

Ties will be decided by count back of the last nine, six, three, two, and final hole of the course, regardless of the order played. If still the same, then the last six, three, two, and final hole of the front nine will decide. If there is still no result, there will be a sudden death play-off using Stableford scoring with full handicap.

6.5 Disqualification

The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify any participant for breach of the Rules of Golf, unsportsmanlike conduct, or breach of these Terms. No refund will be given in such circumstances.

7. World Finals Qualification

7.1 Qualification

The two New Zealand winners (male or female with the best net Stableford scores over 18 holes) will qualify for The Duke of Edinburgh Cup World Finals in London, UK (27 September – 1 October 2026).

7.2 World Finals Prize Package

The invitation for qualifying winners includes:

  • Return airfares to London

  • Hotel accommodation for five nights

  • Tournament golf at Wentworth and Windlesham Golf Clubs

  • Team event at The Royal Household Golf Club, Windsor Castle

  • Royal Gala Prize Giving Dinner at Windsor Castle with a senior member of the Royal Family

  • Meals during the tournament

7.3 Guest Attendance

A partner or guest is welcome to accompany qualifying winners and may share the hotel room. However, all functions, golf, meals, and other expenses will be at the partner's/guest's own cost.

7.4 Additional World Finals Terms

Qualifying winners must comply with all terms and conditions of the World Finals as set by the International Golf Charity. The Organiser is not responsible for any changes to the World Finals programme, dates, or inclusions.

8. Liability and Indemnity

8.1 Assumption of Risk

Participation in the Event is entirely at the Participant's own risk. Golf is a sport that carries inherent risks of injury. By registering, Participants acknowledge and accept these risks.

8.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Organiser, the Venue, and their respective directors, employees, agents, and volunteers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, injury, or death arising from or in connection with participation in the Event, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.

8.3 Personal Property

The Organiser accepts no responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property, including golf equipment, brought to the Event.

8.4 Indemnity

Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Organiser, the Venue, and their respective directors, employees, agents, and volunteers from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from the Participant's actions or breach of these Terms.

8.5 Insurance

Participants are responsible for arranging their own personal accident and travel insurance as appropriate.

9. Privacy and Data Protection

9.1 Collection of Information

Personal information collected during registration will be used for Event administration, communication with Participants, and as otherwise set out in our Privacy Policy available at dukeofedinburghcup.nz/privacy.

9.2 Sharing of Information

Your information may be shared with Royal Wellington Golf Club, Golf NZ, the International Golf Charity, and other parties as necessary for Event administration. We will not sell your personal information to third parties.

9.3 Publication of Results

By entering, Participants consent to the publication of their name, handicap, and scores in Event results.

10. Media and Photography

10.1 Consent to Photography

The Organiser may photograph or film the Event. By participating, you grant the Organiser and its partners a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use your image and likeness in photographs, videos, and other media for promotional purposes.

10.2 Opt-Out

If you do not wish to be photographed, please notify the Organiser in writing at info@doecup.nz before the Event. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate such requests, but the Organiser cannot guarantee that you will not appear in group photographs or general Event footage.

11. Intellectual Property

The Duke of Edinburgh Cup name, logos, and associated branding are protected intellectual property. Participants may not use these marks without prior written consent from the Organiser or the International Golf Charity.

12. Conduct and Dress Code

12.1 Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner and in accordance with the etiquette of golf. Abusive language, harassment, or unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in immediate disqualification.

12.2 Dress Code

Participants must adhere to Royal Wellington Golf Club's dress code at all times. Smart casual golf attire is required. Denim, cargo pants, and collarless shirts are not permitted on the course.

13. Charity Purpose

The Duke of Edinburgh Cup New Zealand is a charity event. All net funds raised in New Zealand will be disbursed to New Zealand charities, specifically Young Enterprise (YES) and Golf New Zealand's youth, women & girls, and disability programmes.

14. Force Majeure

The Organiser shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing its obligations where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to: acts of God, natural disasters, pandemic, government restrictions, war, terrorism, strikes, or Venue unavailability.

15. Amendments

The Organiser reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated to registered Participants via email. Continued participation following notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms.

16. Governing Law and Disputes

16.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand.

16.2 Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Event shall first be referred to mediation. If mediation is unsuccessful, disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
